Substitute Teachers Needed!
- Have you ever thought about teaching in a classroom?
- Do you want to earn some extra money?
- Do you enjoy working with students?
It is now easier than ever to become a substitute teacher. A three-year short-term sub license is available for applicants who hold an associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university and who have successfully completed an approved substitute training program, but has not completed a state-approved educator preparation program.
Once an educator holds a current three-year short-term substitute license, they may short-term substitute at any Wisconsin school district that employs them. To qualify:
1. Register and complete an approved Substitute Training Program (see sidebar above right). We recommend an online training from Stedi. Cost is $39.95. Find the graphic to the right to begin the training.
2. Obtain a WAMS account (if you do not already have one). Click here to begin the process.
3. Once you have a WAMS ID, go to the DPI Application for Three-Year Short-Term Substitute License web page. Near the bottom of the page, find the instructions and follow each step. Find the "Apply for a New License" section of the Quick Start menu. From the drop-down menu, select the following choices:
- Choose "1-Teacher Category"
- Choose "S-Teacher - Short Term Substitute License [T910]"
- Choose "Teacher: Request Short-term Substitute License [1910]
