School Performance

School Report Cards

School Report Cards

Beginning in 2011-12, as part of the new state accountability system, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has produced report cards for every school in Wisconsin. These school report cards provide data on multiple indicators for four priority areas:

  • Student Achievement – performance on the Forward Exam, Dynamic Learning Maps, PreACT Secure, and ACT in English Language Arts and mathematics
  • Student Growth – improvement over time on the Forward Exam in English Language Arts and mathematics
  • Target Area Groups – progress of the lowest performing student in closing statewide gaps in English Language Arts and mathematics performance and/or graduation rates
  • On-track and Postsecondary Readiness – performance on key indicators of readiness for graduation and postsecondary pursuits, whether college or career
State and District Assessments

State and District Assessments

There are several components of the Wisconsin State Assessment System (WSAS).

The Wisconsin Forward Exam is administered online in spring to students in grades 3-8 in English Language Arts and mathematics, grades 4 and 8 in science, and grades 4, 8, and 10 in social studies.

The PreACT Secure assessment is administered online in spring to students in grades 9-10 in the areas of English, reading, math, science, and writing.

The ACT with writing is administered to grade 11 students in spring.

Students with significant cognitive disabilities often receive the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) assessment in place of the Forward Exam, PreACT Secure, or ACT.

Parents receive student reports for their child's participation on ACT and PreACT Secure in the spring and Forward Exam in the fall.

In addition to student participation in the state mandated Forward Exam, the Mukwonago Area School District assesses students in kindergarten through 6th grade in reading and 1st through 6th grade in math using the FastBridge Learning Suite and Park View Middle School uses i-Ready for their reading and math screening assessment at 7th and grade.  These assessments, which students take up to three times per year, are used to monitor student growth and provide appropriate supports for students based on their data.  These results are disseminated to parents shortly after each assessment period.

Parents can receive more information about any of these assessments by contacting their child's school.
The Every Student Succeeds Act requires the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction to identify the lowest performing public schools and schools with low performing student groups in each state.  Each state determines their accountability indicators, and methodologies for scoring and reporting performance on the indicators, in plans submitted to the U.S. Department of Education.
